The Spring Rugby Season

The season goes from March 30 thru April 27 w/ Playoffs May 4 & May 10 plus Year End Jersey Cup Tournament on May 18th.  Matches are typically played on Sunday afternoons.  We historically practice Tues & Thurs each week plus weekends when the weather permits until the season starts.

The Dublin Square is the premiere sponsor of Rugby in the South Jersey area.  They provide much financial support and a nice venue for our meeting at no charge, so we would encourage you to stay and have some lunch after our meetings to

support our sponsor.

Adult Volunters Needed

We need help.  All our leaders are volunteers.  Business travel and other issues are affecting the availability of some of our volunteers this season.  There are many jobs that need to be done, some very time consuming, but some very small jobs taking very little time that would help ease the burden of those doing the bulk of the work.  We would encourage you to volunteer your time and/or resources to help.  We will find a position suited to your availability, interests and capabilities.  We’ll try to have a list together by the meeting.

The Recent Growth of Rugby

A little known fact is that Rugby is the second largest participation sport in the world.  Rugby is now taking off in the US.  Philadelphia hosted the recent sellout New Zealand All Blacks vs US Eagles International Match in Nov and the National Collegiate 7’s Championships this past summer at PPL Park.  There are programs of all levels at nearly every University in the country.  Rugby 7’s has been designated a medal competition at the next summer Olympics.  SJRFC has been in existence in Cherry Hill since 1969 and has fielded a U19 Club side for many years off and on and for the last 10 years straight, with a winning tradition and two Jersey Cups along the way.  Each year is what the players make it by their level of commitment.  Our MO is to teach the game of Rugby at the highest and safest level possible while finding a way for every member to play a game at his own level each weekend.
