RUGBY IS IN THE RIO OLYMPICS – AND IN CHERRY HILL!
For the first time since 1924, the game of Rugby Football is back in the 2016 Summer Olympics. There are 112 countries that play the sport, and it is exploding in popularity in the USA. It is sure to be one of the fastest team sports to be showcased this year in Rio. With seven players on each team, it is a full contact sport played on a pitch 100 meters by 69 meters – think of the open running spaces!
The very good news for locals is – we have rugby in South Jersey! The South Jersey Rugby Football Club (SJRFC) runs teams for adult (18 and up) men and women, as well as U-19 programs for boys and girls. The club was formed in 1969, and our permanent home pitch, at the corner of Cropwell and Evesham Rds. in Cherry Hill, has been there since 1982. The durability and commitment of this solid organization has produced international athletes, given collegiate scholarships to local players, and fostered friendships throughout the world.
If you are interested in joining us, either socially or as a player, please go to our website www.southjerseyrugby.org, then “sign up” dropdown. We welcome all who wish to “support the sport.”
New England Patriots star Nate Ebner will be at the Olympics playing rugby – will you be playing in Cherry Hill?
