SJ v Washington Renegades (4/8/06)

Cherry Hill, NJ

The SJRFC Devils cruised to an easy 51-0 victory over the Washington Renegades RFC at Evesham Rd.   The B side game was cancelled at WRRFC request.

1st Half  (notes got wet/damaged; sorry if there are errors-let me know)

It was windy, rainy and cold at kickoff time with the D-III South bottom dweller WRRFC-definitely not the conditions or the team the Devils really wanted to right-the-ship after last weeks 34-0 losing debacle.  At any rate, both teams got on with it with the Devils dominating, despite playing against a tough wind.  The first half was a one-sided track meet from the kickoff.  At 4:00, winger Bill Blauvelt finished a weak side movement for a try in the corner.  At 7:00, flanker Mike Eykyn popped up in the backs and weaved his way into the clear for a 50 yard try.  Winger Tom Ferrari finished a nice movement at 12:00 followed by flanker Phil Wright with a weak play off the ensuing kickoff.  Fullback Mike Rimositis got in at 21:00 with a conversion by Bill Stom.  Ferrari got his second of the day at 28:00 and kicked his own conversion. Mike Eykyn scored his second of the day at 38:00.  Half time score: 39-0

 2nd Half

The Devils, sensing that WRRFC may waiver on the B-game in favor of the warmth of RMACs, subbed all the reserves at halftime and the scoring slowed down a bit.  Mike Rimositis continued to have an exceptional game at fullback and got in at 16:00, Stom converted.   Berger Brotz powered over a prancing winger at 32:00 to finish the onslaught.

Final score: 51-0

Coaches Comments:  Two players played new positions and did very well-Mike Rimositis at fullback and Tony Pellegrino at hooker.  Phil Wright returned looking like he did more than drink Guinness on tour in Ireland.  James Kelly impressed in his first A-side appearance at flanker.

All efforts must now focus on Union, our toughest game of the year.

Devils scoring:

Trys- Eykyn (2), Ferrari (2), Rimositis (2), Blauvelt, Wright, Brotz

Conversions-Stom (2), Ferrari
